Welcome to Southampton in Song: a recording by Brian Hooper and Jeff Henry bringing to life the music of, and more importantly, about Southampton.
Throughout the years, Southampton has played a major part in English history. From here, Henry V marched off to Agincourt through its West Gate, the Pilgrim Fathers sailed to the New World, the Titanic began its fateful maiden voyage, and for a while it basked in the title of "Gateway To The Empire".
What we have tried to do on our recording is to reflect this rich heritage in music. We have drawn upon the songs of primarily local composers, to try and paint a picture of the city through the years, from the sacking of Southampton in 1338 up to the present day.
