This is another song by Graham Penny - see also 'Knife & Scissors Man' - and has become a firm favourite in the area. In fact it has has travelled beyond the borders of Hampshire; Brian has even taken it to extremes and performed it in San Francisco while on holiday!

Its a story of sailors in the Merchant Navy, and tries to put into words the feeling that they get anticipating their return to their home port, a feeling known among sailors as 'the Channels'. It brings us up the English Channel, past the Isle of Wight and the Needles, and up past the old School of Navigation at Hamble 'till we're once more tied up in Southampton. All the time whilst trying to outfox the customs men!

Graham has written many fine songs, a good proportion of which deal with people and events from Southampton and Hampshire's past.

Ours is a 'live' recording of Brian singing at the Fo'c'sle folk club in Southampton.
